The Athiest's Prayer

Our brains, which art in our heads,
treasured be thy names. Thy reasoning
come. The best you can do be done
on earth as it is. Give us this day new
insight to resolve conflicts and
ease pain. And lead us not
into supernatural explanations,
deliver us from denial of logic.
For thine is the kingdom of reason,
and even though thy powers are limited,
and you’re not always glorious,
you are the best evolutionary adaptation
we have for helping this earth now and
forever and ever.
So be it.

That's not weird at all. There are many concepts of an afterlife that do not rely on a deity (or deities). For example reincarnation.

Wanting and hoping for something beyond this life is natural. Attributing such a thing to a deity is an extention of that...people want a way to escape death (which is scary to them) and want to feel like they are protected...so they imagine deities to watch over them.

It is more an agnostic sort of concept than "strict atheism" but IMO it's normal and not weird. It's human nature.
