No. The item in question (the music the band makes) is what I would be following. Who else is interested in an item doesn't change the quality or merit of the item.
Conversely if the band were to change (due to becoming popular media starlets, for instance) that would change their music and that may or may not make me lose interest.
And even if the quality of the music did start going down-hill that wouldn't change the quality or merit of the older songs which would have earned my interest in the first place.
