Cats. They have independence and individuality. If a cat doesn't want to mingle it will go do its own thing, it will make its feelings clear. If the cat does want some attention it will seek it out and make it clear.

Dogs are sycophants at best, their dependency upon their owners is off-putting to me and I feel like I am taking advantage of a creature that can't help but be loyal and affectionate.

No offense to the canine, lupine and vulpine furries reading this...
