Gay rights stuff...
May. 7th, 2005 06:51 amThis is just an update on some anti-gay stuff and some pro-tolerance stuff I have seen recently.
From friends LJ's, their coverage of the latest anti-gay-marriage debate in Texas:

Here is the speach in opposition to the ban on gay marriage (stolen verbatim from
triggur's LJ)

And a little news article I found yesterday:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/gay_sperm_donors
Pretty much, "they" have decided that if you're gay you need to be celibate for 5 years before you're allowed to donate sperm, because your homosexuality is a STD risk...nothing to do with the lifestyle you live, just the inherent STD risk of not being one of god's-favoured straight people with their bible-endorsed STD immunity... i.e. it's bullshit.
The article is particularly worrying...it seems that after large scale efforts with the corresponding media attention failed in the US (that whole altering the constitution to allow institutionalised discrimination against homosexuals) that now there are any number of little pieces of legislation like this getting snuck through with no chance for the public to object.
( rant )
Lets be serious here...this little law portrays all homosexuals as HIV carriers, and declares that by-definition a homosexual is an STD risk but a heterosexual is automatically safe(r)...
...that's bullshit. Why? Because the homosexual 'community' is far more conscious of the risk of STD's and the need for safe sex than your 'average heterosexual'. The stereotype of STD's raging unchecked through the community of homosexuals is decades out of date...and the reason/motive for homosexuals being far more cautios nowadays!
The motive for this legislation is quite clearly to deny rights...they test the donation already anyway, so this can only be for the purposes of fostering discrimination. It simply serves no other purpose.
