Why Gays Don't Go Extinct?

Why Gays Don't Go Extinct?
http://www.livescience.com/health/080617-hereditary-homosexuality.html
Homosexuality in males may be caused in part by genes that can increase fertility in females, according to a new study.

The findings may help solve the puzzle of why, if homosexuality is hereditary, it hasn't already disappeared from the gene pool, since gay people are less likely to reproduce than heterosexuals.

A team of researchers found that some female relatives of gay men tend to have more children than average. The scientists used a computer model to explain how two genes passed on through the maternal line could produce this effect.

I wonder how much longer studies about biological reasons for homosexuality this will continue to be brushed off as 'isolated'?

And I thought scientists were smart....

I just dont think Homosexuality is gene based...

Even if it is gene-based, the twin studies prove that there are numerous other factors--from the environment to personal experiences.

My own opinion is that it is mainly personal experiences-if you look at different cultures throughout history, the levels of gayity among the general population varies greatly.

Like I said (below) I support the people trying to work out the truth and I oppose those who are trying to pretend homosexuality is some flippant choice (and not concerning themselves with the truth / reality).

I don't think it's just some choice either. So I support the peopel trying to work it out...and oppose the people who declare it is a choice so they don't seem like complete arses for hating homosexuals and preaching that homosexuality is a sin.

Well, that's the point of actually doing the science and measuring stuff like the fertility of female relatives.

Yes. And in a way I don't actually mind that.

I actually don't care what the answer is, it is the question and the search for the answer that interest me. Someone who is trying to find how things work deserves respect (even if we might not like the answers they find). If someone says "I believe homosexuality is a choice and that it's sinful" fine, but that deserves no respect, they aren't looking for the truth they are just hiding from it for whatever reasons.

So for example if "the answer" to homosexuality is genetic that's fine by me. If it's due to nurture not nature that's fine. If it's due to brain parasites then eeewwww but so be it if that's the situation. I won't be ignoring that answer because it's inconvenient, which some groups seem determined to do. If their influence wanes because of it (denying reality out of self interest), all the better.
